Overview

PhD candidate position in The research on the use of accelerated carbonation for stabilization of biomass ash granules

Open application for a doctoral candidate in Environmental Engineering
The doctoral candidate position is available in the Environmental engineering faculty Environmental protection and water engineering department. Applicants interested in other research topics related to waste management are also welcome to apply.

Research topic description
Biomass ash can be used as a component material for soil improvers. This provides opportunities for large-scale recycling of biomass ash. However, this material cannot be directly applied to the soil without stabilization by carbonation, which also creates an opportunity for CO2 capture and storage. During the doctoral studies, research on the accelerated carbonation process will be carried out in order to optimize this process and obtain ash granules for soil improvers. Leaching tests will also be performed in order to evaluate the leaching and transfer of various minerals and phosphorus to plants.

The selected candidate will work on the PhD thesis under the supervision of prof. dr. Saulius Vasarevičius The successful applicant will have to attend scientific conferences, meetings and internships at other universities.

Requirements
• Required background: environmental engineering or chemical engineering
• Expected skills and knowledge: technological (to be a user of IT applications)

It is a prerequisite that you can be present at and accessible to the institution daily.

For more information
Shortlisted candidates will be invited for an interview. The position may not be opened if no qualified candidate is found. Additional information regarding the post may be obtained from prof. dr. Saulius Vasarevičius, e-mail: saulius.vasarevicius@vilniustech.lt
