Overview
PhD candidate position in Open Science:Critical discourse analysis of mediated public texts/corpora
Open application for a doctoral candidate in Communication and Information
The doctoral candidate position is available in the Faculty of Creative Industries, Department of Creative Communication. Applicants interested in other research topics related to discourse analysis of mediated texts are also welcome to apply.
Research topic description
The project could make use of purposeful sampling from current English-language political communications, policy papers, popular journalism, science-related coverage or social media and include the multimodal/visual dimension of analysis.
The analytic focus could fall on self/other representation and legitimization techniques, conceptualization through metaphor or another schema, or ideological underpinnings of public debates. Alternatively, it could explore the cultural differences in the selection of discursive strategies and persuasion-oriented devices.
The thematic options may range from war and crisis to health, climate change and migration discourses, but depend on the candidate’s preferences and access. Justified cross-cultural and linguistic comparisons, as well as studies involving the triangulation of media platforms, are welcome.
The selected candidate will work on the PhD thesis under the supervision of habil. dr. Katarzyna Molek-Kozakowska. The successful applicant will have to attend scientific conferences, meetings and internships at other universities.
